About Me

My name is Mehrzad, I was born in Tehran, Iran, and recently immigrated to Canada. Being a mother of two I’m most passionate about my family and spending time with them gives me the energy to be creative.

I taught Mathematics in Iran for many years; however, art has always been a big part of my life. I have practiced several handcraft techniques such as embroidery and textile design throughout the years. Since immigrating to Canada, it has been my dream to create a cohesive collection of artwork that shows my ideas. During the pandemic, I finally had a chance to follow my dream and create a series of my artwork. In most of my pieces, green is used. To me, green offers peace and beauty and I can relate to my beautiful environment, through the implication of “green” in my collection

The elements often seen in my artwork are geometric shapes such as circles and paisley patterns. My background as a math teacher has drawn me to lines and curves, Circle is one of my favorite shapes, to me, a circle embodies the end, and the beginning and connects them to one another. Circle it is smooth and soft and I can relate to it through my art. The paisley pattern, also often seen in my textile work, is one of the oldest patterns that come from the Iranian culture and it represents my history and country of origin.

I hope my creativity inspires the viewer and brings the gift of peace, joy, and grace to those that relate to my art.
